St. Patrick's Day in Jersey City: Plan a Ride Home and Plan Ahead

St. Patrick's Day brings crowds and parades to Hudson County. Here is how to plan ahead, get around and make sure you have a safe ride home.

St. Patrick’s Day falls on Wednesday, March 17, 2027. Jersey City and the rest of Hudson County see big crowds, parades and bar events around the date, often over the weekend before as well. If you are planning to stay in or stock up, or you want to avoid driving on one of the year’s heaviest nights for drunk driving, a ride-home plan is the most important thing you can do. This guide covers timing, transit, and the rules that apply. It is for adults 21+.

The Quick Answer

  • Plan your ride before you go out. Never drive after using cannabis or alcohol.
  • Order early. The weekend nearest the date can be busy.
  • Posted Wednesday hours: store 9 AM–10 PM, delivery until 9:30 PM. Holiday hours can differ, so call (848) 500-9333 to confirm.
  • Don’t mix cannabis and alcohol.

Events in the Area

Hudson County and nearby towns hold St. Patrick’s Day parades and events, and dates for 2027 are usually set closer to the date. We haven’t confirmed any for 2027, so check the organizers and local listings before you plan a route. Parades can mean closed streets and crowded transit around Newark Avenue and other Downtown corridors.

Getting Around

The Newark–WTC PATH line runs 24 hours, and Grove Street is about a 5-minute walk from CREAM, west on Newark Avenue and up Brunswick. Check PATH service notices on busy days. Street parking meters run until 8 PM and are free after 8 PM and on Sundays. See how to get to CREAM.

Plan a Ride Home

  1. Decide how you will get home before the first drink.
  2. Use PATH, light rail or rideshare, and book early, since demand spikes late in the evening.
  3. Choose a designated driver who uses neither alcohol nor cannabis.
  4. Stay over if you can.
  5. Don’t get in a car with anyone who has been using.

DUI penalties for cannabis are the same as for alcohol in New Jersey. See New Jersey cannabis laws.

Alcohol and Cannabis

Parties and pubs mean drinks. Research suggests combining cannabis and alcohol can cause more impairment than either alone. Pick one for the night. See why they don’t mix.

Pickup or Delivery

Where You Can Use It

  • Don’t use if you may need to go out.
