Things to Do Near CREAM in Downtown Jersey City: A Walkable Guide

CREAM is a short walk from Grove Street, Newark Avenue and Downtown's parks. Here is a walkable plan for the area, with confirmed events and a few responsible-use notes.

CREAM sits in the Powerhouse Arts District, a few minutes’ walk from Grove Street, Newark Avenue and some of the best-known parks and streets in Downtown Jersey City. If you are making a trip to pick something up, it is worth building a short outing around it. This guide is a walkable plan for the area around 284 1st Street, with events that are confirmed as of this writing and a few notes on keeping the day responsible. It is for adults 21+.

The Quick Answer

  • Start at Grove Street. The PATH station is about a 5-minute walk from CREAM, west on Newark Avenue and up Brunswick.
  • Walk Newark Avenue. The pedestrian mall and plaza are the center of Historic Downtown.
  • Pick up on the way, and save the cannabis for home. Public use has restrictions.

Grove Street PATH Plaza and the Farmers Market

Grove Street PATH Plaza is the heart of Downtown. According to the Historic Downtown organization, the Farmers Market runs from April 20 to December 21, 2026, on Mondays and Thursdays from 3 to 7 PM, at the plaza. If you are coming to CREAM on a Monday or Thursday afternoon, it is right on your route. Check the organizer’s schedule before you go, since markets can change with the weather.

The Newark Avenue Pedestrian Mall

Newark Avenue is the walk between Grove Street and CREAM, and its pedestrian mall and plaza host many of Downtown’s events. The area has a mix of restaurants, cafés and shops. For a walking route, use a map app, and expect more people on weekends and during events.

  • Halloween Family Bash: an annual free event on October 31, 12 PM to 8 PM, at the pedestrian mall.
  • Happy Holiday Market (Handmade Market): listed for select December dates in 2026: December 5, 6, 12 and 13.

Dates are from the organizer’s calendar and can change. If you are planning around a big event, see our guide to Halloween weekend in Jersey City.

Hamilton Park and Van Vorst Park

Hamilton Park and Van Vorst Park anchor the residential side of Historic Downtown, with brownstones around the green space. They are good spots for a walk. Hamilton Park hosts free outdoor events from time to time. Check the city or event listings for what is on, and don’t plan to use cannabis in a park, since public places have restrictions. Historic Jersey City and Harsimus Cemetery

The Historic Jersey City and Harsimus Cemetery is on Newark Avenue, and it hosts occasional programs. It is a quiet piece of local history, a short walk from the pedestrian mall.

The Powerhouse Arts District

CREAM’s own neighborhood is the Powerhouse Arts District, named for the industrial buildings that have become lofts, studios and creative spaces. It is a quieter area than Newark Avenue, and a pleasant walk if you are heading to or from the store. For the full set of ways to reach it, see how to get to CREAM.

A Sample Afternoon

  1. Take PATH to Grove Street and check the plaza, and the market on Mondays and Thursdays.
  2. Walk Newark Avenue, and have a bite or a coffee.
  3. Head up Brunswick to CREAM and pick up your order. Build your cart ahead. See order-ahead pickup.
  4. Take your purchase home, sealed.

Tips for the Day

  • Bring your ID. A valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID showing you are 21 or older.
  • Keep your purchase sealed and out of sight while you walk around.
  • Don’t use cannabis in public, and don’t mix it with a day of drinks.
  • Allow extra time on event days.
  • Check the weather, since most of this plan is outdoors.

Hours

CREAM is open Monday–Thursday 9 AM–10 PM and Friday–Sunday 9 AM–11 PM. Street parking meters run until 8 PM, and parking is free after 8 PM and on Sundays.
